Drum roll! Sherwin-Williams' color of the year is Universal Khaki. The trend here is that neutral tones are in. It provides a modern look with clean lines. This color has a particular appeal for Vermont, as it promotes a connection to the outdoors, a natural hue in the sunlight regardless of the time of year. I love this color because it conveys a richness that makes a statement without dominating the room. Universal Khaki allows a full range of color accent options, such as bold color throw pillows or a colorful couch or side chair.
Sherwin-Williams highlights its ability to mix Universal Khaki with other colors as one reason it was selected as the color of the year. They suggested a combination of Universal Khaki, Neutral Ground, and Griffin for a living room.
For a bedroom, I prefer to stick to soothing and relaxing colors. The suggested combination of Universal Khaki with Cordovan to ground the room, while lighter Reddened Earth absorbs the light, really creates a nighttime oasis.
For a more contemporary, unique, and bold look, combine Creamy (softer than Universal Khaki) with Still Water and Reddened Earth. This trio works great in a small space like a bathroom or office.
There is renewed focus on pulling in nature. For me, the color combination Universal Khaki and Secret Garden is just so Vermont. The combination is organic without being cliche or dated. Perfect for a living room or entryway.
